Police-Community Relations
A model partnership, CRC works with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to develop trust and communication between officers and citizens. CRC has two outlets for citizens concerned with police-community relations, the Police Complaint Review Program and the Police-Community Relations Awards Program.
The Police-Community Relations Awards Program recognizes officers and work teams from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department who have made outstanding contributions to the improvement of police-community relations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.
An officer models civic involvement for the next generation.
The Police Complaint Review program assists citizens in making an allegation of officer misconduct. This CRC program provides citizens with an alternative to registering their complaint directly with the police department's internal affairs division.

Officers problem solve with the help of neighborhood residents.
Officers are judged on their involvement in helping the community understand the police function and the citizens role; demonstration of extraordinary efforts in the area of crime prevention, and involvement in aiding neighborhoods in handling their special problems.
Citizens from neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, businesses and civic institutions nominate officers. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee members review the nominations.
CRC conducts the planning, fund-raising and implementation of the annual awards program. The program recognizes outstanding contributions and problem solving efforts by individual and teams of CMPD officers. To date, the CRC has planned, coordinated and implemented twenty-eight Police-Community Relations Awards programs.
