CURB IT! Collection Making Progress
- CURB IT! collection services still operating on a one-day delay, but crews have made significant progress
- CURB IT! garbage and recycling are collection priorities
- Customers should place items at curbside as normal and leave there until collected
July 28, 2004 (Charlotte, NC) – Although garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky item collection is still operating on a one-day delay, City equipment management and solid waste crews have made significant strides in getting collection services back on schedule.
On Sunday, July 25, City solid waste collection vehicles at the Louise Avenue equipment lot were vandalized. The damage to the trucks has caused collection services to be delayed all week. Although the delay is expected to continue through the end of the week, City equipment management crews have been able to repair all but nine of the damaged trucks. The repaired trucks have been put back into operation, which has helped solid waste crews make significant strides in collecting.
"We are still working Tuesday routes in some areas, but we have several crews that started on Wednesday routes this morning. This is a good sign that we will be able to get back on schedule for next week," said Sheldon Smith, solid waste services assistant director.
The service delay impacts customers in the City's north, south, and east sides of town. These customers are asked to place their items at curbside on their normal day of collection and leave them there until collected. Customers on the City's west side are not affected by these service delays.
A route status update will be provided each morning. Ongoing route status updates, service information and collection maps are available at http://curbit.charmeck.org or by calling Solid Waste customer service at 704.336.2673.
The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services CURB IT! collection program provides collection of residential garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items from curbside once a week on residents scheduled collection day.
